Cell phone fun

As many people know, I use my cell phone a LOT. I *ALWAYS* answer unless I’m in the restroom, shower or movie. I also use it to talk to the gf in Australia a LOT. Last month I used 4534 minutes… So, given that I use my cell phone this often, service availability and service is obviously important. Recently I went with friends to evaluate cell phone companies and we decided Cingular was a really good choice for family plans with data use.. meanwhile I’m with AT&T wireless and had considered moving. Today’s experience with AT&T has motivated me to remain where I am…

The month before last I called AT&T to change to a lower rate plan since I was using mainly offpeak hours.. MISTAKE.. I used over 600 minutes extra of peak time.. So, I call today to have my plan changed for next month.. obviously it was my mistake for changing plans and I did use the minutes in question.. my turn to get taken to the cleaners.. but it didn’t happen that way. I spent a while on hold.. the gentleman who answered the phone joked around for a moment as he looked up my records.. and then did the unthinkable.. he offered to let me go to another rate plan that would work better.. AND MADE IT RETROACTIVE! My bill went from $390 to $110 in a matter of minutes.

To top it off, I let him renew my contract 3.5 months early so I could get my new phone before I leave on my upcomming trips (usually it’s 3 months early, not 3.5.. and AT&T is one of the few companies which allow you to renew early to try to keep your business). Put this towards one great customer service experience.
