Ok, so was sitting around thinking… I need to stop assuming things. Not just tonight but in general. I do have an issue of making assumptions, then getting upset when they don’t work out.. and good intentions aside, somehow it rarely works as expected.
Use tonight as an example.. we’ve been having problems with the circuit. I knew due to a mail earlier, that someone was on site and they were working on the problem along with the telco people. The bad assumption was that there’d be reason to need to hand-off to someone so the other person could go to work. I also assumed alternate connectivity could be handy as well to keep in contact with the ISP since they hadn’t been in the loop. As it turned out, had I called instead of assuming, I’d have known that the issue was mostly resolved and no need for me to drop by. The second half of tonight was the mini party. I had talked yesterday about crashing the party, was told it’d be ok - then this morning spoke more about it and had been told there’d be a call back with a schedule.. then when there wasn’t, I assumed (again) that if I just showed up it would make things easier since I am at least 30min away not including rush hour delays (usually the call comes in a bit late, so I’ve gotten in the habit of assuming the call will be late and hopping on the road early - if/when the assumption works, it’s a help).. but again, the assumption was wrong, the party was out rollin’ around town and with my work issues, I couldn’t head out and join, so would have been best if I hadn’t assumed that this party would be like last with staying in and hanging out. Instead I ended up getting upset with myself for sitting around for a few hours where I shouldn’t have been to begin with .. all due to assumptions.
Oh well, as I always say, things work out for the best.. picked up some mochas from 7-11 while I was waiting, tested sharing my wireless net connection for the 1st time on the newly reformatted laptop (to find it doesn’t work correctly), finally remembered to take the AP over to the other place like I had promised to, was there to pickup a server that got dropped off and got out of the house (gets quite boring staying home a lot).. so definately wasn’t a wasted trip, just not what I had intended to do with my afternoon and evening. Soon I’ll not be bored at home.. 9 more days
