I realize that most people know I’m rather conservative, probably to excess, however I’ll never understand how people can feel comfortable about making rude generalizations about other people (or their country, politics, religion, etc) when in the company of people who could be offended. To paraphrase the item that annoyed me.. was a comment to the effect of “if it had been a US plane that crashed, they’d have gone to war over it”. It’s crap like this that annoys me.. it would be one thing if there was some discussion happening where people were debating their country’s good and bad sides and trying to make a point about US policy against terrorists.. however this was made 100% as a smack about the US in the middle of a conversation about the plane crash that happened a few hours ago in Canada.
I find people’s choice of when and where to bash another group of people as a general sign of the ever declining world we live in. Political correctness has gone to far in regards to government involvement, however it would be nice for people to actually watch what they say occasionally and not go out of their way to be rude to others.
I couldn’t agree more, we all have our own opinions and points of view, however a little respect for someone that has an opposing one always works wonders.
Personally, I feel that it has alot to do with one’s upbringing - I remember from an early age being taught that it was incredibly bad manners to discuss Politics, Religion and Money in mixed company - so I guess when it comes down to the crunch the person that spouted so eloquently has the manners of a warthog.
I find more and more that I delve into the realm of “devil’s advocate” nowadays because it amuses me to see people get so riled up about something that I probably will never agree with, but they insist on pushing that envelope. I respect their right to believe in whatever the hell they want, and moreoften than not I wont raise an eyebrow about it unless they question my own beliefs and make issue of them.
So ya darling, i’m with you on the annoyance, the only suggestion I can make is to ignore the comment and realise that money certainly doesn’t breed manners and he’s a walking example of this.
