					<description>Yes. My theory is that those of us who were on BBSs in the early '90s and made our way onto the Internet in the mid to late '90s had it easier. 

The roads were narrower and cars went slower. Today, it's like dropping kids onto the 405 at 4:30pm.

I remember just emailing people to get a response from another person. Or getting on a public cuseeme reflector. Or joining random irc channels.

Now I only talk to people I already know because I've seen what happens when something becomes ubiquitous.

I imagine the old timers remember just calling people to hear voices. Then there was a period of semi-coolness and then the prank callers and the real bullies.
