Fire night

Fire at Mission Beach.. good times. A crew of us went down to the beach last night. There really isn’t much to write about, the only stories to tell I’ll share in a second. This was really one of those times when just being with the right people, in the right place was fun by itself - no real “activities” to speak of. As for the stories.. police came by a few times to see if we were drinking - the first time 2 vehicles with a total of about 5 officers came by. They confronted us, made sure our area was alcohol-free and then sat over near our cars (and their vehicles) talking for the next 20min. The next set of police came by later on - right when Nick was down at the water with bottles and Krys wasn’t far behind. My concern on this was that they may think we were littering the bay or something with the bottles nick had.. and then Krys is calling for everyone to come down to the water. I was caught a bit off guard by this as going to the water when a police man approaches can’t look good - hehe, but all went well. Was just another alcohol check.

Good times..

Getting involved.. where you don’t belong

Ok, since I’m in blog mode, I’ve got some quick writing to do before bed. I suck at saying things in person sometimes, but sometimes I need to get things off of my chest.. and so here we are.

I have a basic question.. with some background. I’ve got this nice group of friends here and I do care about their well-being. I try to be handy when needed, supportive, not cause too many problems ;) (for those who know me I am like the anti-problem causer) and I like to have everything “at peace”.. but sometimes things come up that I feel I need to comment on and get involved in, even if they don’t “directly” affect me - ie: watching relationship issues or noticing a possible bad trend that you feel that you shouldn’t just “watch” continue. In this case the 2 items are related and I am unsure if I should get involved and say my piece, or just let things be since I know that the path being followed is not intentionally to cause problems, I just “feel” that it will.

So, do I get involved or keep my mouth shut and watch to see if things just work themselves out?

[UPDATED - 9/16/03 - 3:20am]
I was awakened by a phone call a moment ago regarding this post. Never was good with the whole completely subtle posting thing when I see something that I need to “discuss” with someone but not having the balls to just go “yo, I see a prob!” and talk to someone. Anyway, personally I feel a relief that I’m not seeing ghosts or making things up in my mind. What I was concerned about was valid afterall..so that’s fine for me and my piece of mind (part 1) but not necessarly fine for the part of me which is concerned about the others (part 2) - so now to see where things go from here. Personally I find part 2 easier to deal with - once there’s recognition of a possible problem, solutions can be found. (yes, I’m a freakin’ optimist.. don’t ya hate us?)

Nooo, not another one!

Just when I thought the blog thing might be a passing fad.. someone else gets roped in. I’ll refrain from linking though since the other party has stalkers who know to try to use me to get to them.. so with that said.. welcome to the blog world D. I completely can understand the vanity related posts and it’s good to see you online again. You really do seem happy in your posting even if the subjects sometimes aren’t the most “warm & fuzzy/feel good” subjects - obviously you like having a place to have an outlet again.. as we all do. Anyway, since this is my blog, I’ll go back to my own misc rants in a sec. Unfortunately I am left wondering what mishaps I happened to leave in the middle of tonight.. but unfortunately a 7:30am conference call in the morning required me to get home, blog and then sleep - hopefully it’s something simple that will pass.

Anyway, good to have you along D.

Beyond Balderdash

Tonight was game night (very enjoyable)

The basics of the game - you’re presented with a word, date, movie, person or initials and have to figure out what it means or why it’s important. The person who’s turn it is reads the item.. and then writes the definition on their own card.. everyone else writes a definition/description on their cards - trying to sound realistic. Once collected, the person who did the reading of the initial card reads all of the cards collected in random order. The players then guess which the “real” definition is. The real definition is worth 2 points to whoever gets it; meanwhile you get 1 point for each person you trick into voting for your definition.

So, here’s the items and descriptions I came up with:

December 22, 1987
Michael Jackson’s hair caught on fire while shooting a Pepsi commercial.

Six Lessons from Madam La Zonga
A documentry about eating healthy while travelling to Africa.

Scuppernong
The term for the eye-bolt used in the model 5A John Deer tractor assembly.

Jan 4th, 1957
The date “Birdseye Foods” introduced their frozen vegetables to grocers

Hagbut
Slang term from England in the early 60s for homeless women

Edwin Budding
Second person to ever swim across the English channel

They sound a bit convincing, don’t they? ;)

Concert review - Vienna Teng

Saturday night I was lucky enough to go see Vienna Teng in concert. Her performance was flawless as usual. I’ve been talking to my friends since then about her performance. We’ve come to the basic decisions that she plays flawlessly, has a great/professional stage presence both between songs and while playing, has a wonderful voice.. and the list goes on. Normally if I think about one person on a keyboard or a piano and singing, my mind doesn’t fill with the fullness and wide-range of melody and tones that Vienna is able to create. Still in awe a few days later. I recommend that you buy her CD and then pass the word along. The music industry seems to be hard enough to inch your way into and when you find a good artist like this, it’s worth it to own a CD or two and to help them out (hey, and you get a legit copy of some cool music.. go figure).

Oh, and yes, there were other performances that night as well. None as good, but Jane was the second best - her dance/rap moves took away from her performance in my opinion. sometimes it almost seemed that her singing would get jerky while she worked out certain “moves”. Two guitar playing guys weren’t all that bad either. The last person who was up (and who played before Vienna) I can’t recall a name for, but she was just singing the wrong tunes. She probably could be really good.
