Eclectus parrot plucking

Ok, so I was out of town for the last few days… I get back and heard that my friends only visited my parrot once. The thing is, he’s not as “social” as you’d think so it never really concerns me when he’s left alone. He has a plucking problem but other than that he does good on his own. Turns out, he’s grown some very long feathers in my absense.. makes me wonder if I contribute to his plucking .. and if so, how do I stop it?

Politics annoy me

Ok, so last night before the fun fires I was hanging out somewhere that had the California gov debates on TV. For those who don’t know me: I don’t like confrontations, I don’t like politics and I don’t feel that whoever is voted in to a seat of power “really” has the power to do what they claim they can (or take the blame for everything that goes wrong when they’re in that seat). The whole experience made me feel physically sick to my stomach.

First off, the canidates still do the whole personal attack thing. It’s never “I have had more experience in X due to A B and C, therefore I think my opinion on Y is valid” .. it always comes down to “you guys don’t know anything about Y”. This just reduces my opinions of the canidates to almost nothing. Along with this is the desire for most of these people to take credit for everything that they feel is “right” and then refuse to acknowledge that anyone else accomplished anything helpful.

Second item that annoyed me is the general “blame” factor. Did the last Gov really cause 100% of the problems he’s blamed for? Did the others running for office cause other problems with what they’ve been doing in their local governments before running for this position? Was it really THEIR fault or are they just the figurehead who gets to take credit for the wins and losses while other people really work and try the different options… and in reality, even if they are.. who says you can’t learn from your mistakes? If someone is at least TRYING things (with some level of research behind it) then they should be honored for that.

The other most annoying part of this is that everyone likes to come in with a budget, an agenda, a full plan that’s “theirs”.. what about either hiring outside agencies to handle some of this planning, or even proposing a budget without running for office, etc? Who says you 1) need to be in a position of “power” to actually change things or 2) that once in that position of power “you” have to be the person behind the ideas (or your “immediate staff”)…

So anyway, I walked out of the room on numerous occasions trying not to be ill. I once heard the saying that “the only people who are worthy of the position also are smart enough not to want it” .. and I agree.

Cell phones - part 2

Ok, Sprint didn’t work at my house and the battery life on the cam phone (with little to no use) was about 14 hours. Unacceptable. I went back to AT&T.. got a new phone.. the Nokia 6800. Battery life seems to be insanely good.. been showing it off, sending/receiving text messages, listening to the radio, using the alarm, spoke on it for about a total of 20-30min over the last 4 days.. without charging it.. and I’m down to 6 of the 7 bars on the battery indicator. The cool parts on this phone include speakerphone, flip-out keyboard, good reception most places so far, excellent battery life, neat earpiece comes standard, midi ringtone support, and the free sync software from Nokia (infrared works just fine from my laptop). The only problem I’ve had was that the #s on the phone came from my T68i sim card.. all which were out dated and it imported them as NAME/W, NAME/H, NAME/M instead of really realizing they were NAME then mobile/home/work and actually entering them correctly. With the built-in keyboard and the sync software, editing things and correcting has been easy :)

Cell phones

Ok, so my AT&T GSM phone sucks.. I’ll finally admit it. I don’t know if it’s the phone or AT&T service and at the moment I don’t care.. time to move on (Sony Ericsson T68i color phone for those curious).

Now the big question.. what next.. here’s the choices:
* Sprint.. seem friendly, have cool picture phones, some questionable service places are being expanded for better coverage, small phones.. etc Seem reliable according to friends
* Verizon.. they work EVERYWHERE that I go.. reliable, stable.. not much on the “fun” factor.. their camera phone and “unlimited picture” plan allows 20 pics per month.. RIGHT.. what’s the point? They’re more expensive, but I know they’ll work everywhere
* AT&T .. just say no - I dislike them
* Cingular.. been there, done that, their service started going downhill
* T-mobile and the others just are too freaky for me

..well, the decision was Sprint.. camera phone (Sanyo 8100).. Only 1 problem so far.. doesn’t work at home unless in certain rooms.. annoyance #1 is that the pics are uploaded to THEIR website and then a mail goes out to whoever you sent it to telling them to go there to view it. I’d rather have it really send the pic to who I want. Debating taking it back or getting people to start calling my home # to find me.

Feels strange, ya know?

Blog hopping from one to another to another.. just feels “strange” ’cause you end up seeing things that refer to people you know, but you don’t know the other person.. and it’s like strange…..

Anyway, sleep calls.
